Walter Gipson "Gippy" Martin Jr, age 76, of Limestone, passed away on his birthday, March 24, 2026 at Mountain Home VA Hospital, Mountain Home Tennessee, surrounded by his family.
Gippy was the son of the late Walter Gipson "Jeff" Martin and Joy Walker Martin. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Melony, a niece, Melissa and several aunts and uncles.
Gippy was an electrician and farmer who had perfected the art of growing tobacco in float trays in greenhouses all over Tennessee, Virginia, and North Carolina. He and Kathy sold crop insurance for many years.

He graduated from Washington College Academy in 1968, he was very heavily involved in FFA, he won many awards. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Air Force. In the late 90s he became a self taught Vintner and won many awards for his wine, locally, at the state level and internationally. Gippy was also known for his love of ducks, which all started at his late mother and father-in-laws, AJ and Ruth Stafford, at their farm in Bowmantown.

Gippy was a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder. He was a former member of the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department, and Limestone Ruritan Club where he served as president in 1976.

Gippy loved and enjoyed life. He really enjoyed smoking meat and he was very generous in sharing of it.

Those left behind who will join him in Glory, are his wife Kathy Stafford Martin, son Walter Gipson "Jeff" Martin III and wife Kim, grand daughters, Kelsey, Kamryn, and Cora Stratton ( Talon) , sister, Linda Painter (Jackie), twin brothers Eddy Martin (Helen) and Tommy Martin (Lois),Joe Martin (Gena), several nieces, nephews and cousins. Good friends, Donnie and David Snyder, Dallas Arrowood, Richard Squibb, and Ronald Dykes; cousin, Billy Mac Broyles, and his cat named Sweet Tater.

There will be no formal service at this time but later there may be a Celebration of Life.

His family appreciates all of the love and kindness that have been extended.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Washington County Humane Society or the VA Hospice.
