Shirley Jean Couch

Mrs. Shirley "Mama Jean" Couch, 82, Jonesborough, passed away on Monday, June 16, 2025, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital with her family by her side. She was born in Washington County, to the late Sherrill and Francis (Beals) Garst. Jean was a member of Boone Trial Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Couch; sister, Phyllis Couch; brothers, Jim and Charles Garst.

She is survived by her daughter, Kem Couch; son, Mark Couch (Leslie); grandchildren, Cory Padgett, Dawson Padgett, Bailey Couch (Elana), Brandon Couch (Laney); great-grandchildren, Adaya and Jansen Couch; siblings, David Garst (Jean), Glenda Phillips (Lawrence), Ruth Odom, Patsy Harlan (Frank), and Earlene Hignite; sister-in-law, Verna Garst; along with several nieces and nephews.

The Couch family will receive friends on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Boone Trial Baptist Church - 1985 Carroll Creek Rd. Johnson City, TN 37615, from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor John H. Moore officiating. Committal Service and Interment will be Saturday, June 21, 2025, in Fairview Cemetery beginning at 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
