Roy Whitaker Sr., age 86, of the Sulphur Springs Community, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, August 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.
Roy attended Cornerstone Fellowship Church in Fall Branch. He retired from the Washington County Highway Department after many years of dedicated service. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his first wife Maxine Thacker Whitaker; his second wife Elsie Whitaker; four brothers, and two sisters.
He is survived by his children, Carrie Sykes (Wayne), Tina Holland (Jim), Angela Hess (David), David Whitaker, Roy Whitaker Jr., and Chris Sykes; five grandchildren; great grandchildren, Carter, Abigail and eight others; one great-great grandchild; special friends David and Margie; along with several nieces and nephews.
The Whitaker family will receive friends Monday August 26, 2024 at Cornerstone Fellowship Church 169 Judge Baines Rd. Fall Branch, TN, from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow at 7p.m. with Rev. Roy Jenkins and Rev. Harold R. Morelock officiating. Committal Service and Interment will be Tuesday August 27, 2024 in Sulphur Springs Cemetery beginning at 11:00am. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. Everyone who wishes to attend the Committal Service is asked to meet at Jonesborough Funeral Home by 10:30 am to proceed to the cemetery.
