Roger Reece Adkins

Roger Reece Adkins, 80, of Jonesborough, went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, December 8, 2023, at his home. He was born to the late Wilce and Lula (Miller) Adkins on June 16, 1943, in Burnsville, NC. Roger proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church.

Roger worked on a Mississippi tug boat and ACE Cargo Express. He had friends all across the United States. Roger was one of a kind, he was loved by all who knew him and a true friend to everyone. Roger loved working on his 1971 Vett, drawing, and building lighthouses but most of all he loved his family and church family.

In addition to his parent, Roger was preceded in death by his sisters, Sharon Nelson, Reba Whitson, Jessie Hederick, and Golda Williams; brothers, Boyd Adkins, Glen Adkins, and Dewight Adkins.

Survivors include his sister, Lena Bailey; caregiver and niece, Sherry Adams and husband Randy; special friends, Kevin Shaw, Vanessa Jimenez, Ian Adams, and Roy Lacey; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins who had a special place in his hearts, and he loved them dearly.

The Adkins family will receive friends on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church from 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. Roger Laws officiating. Committal Service and Inurnment will follow the Memorial Service Friday, at Mountain Home National Cemetery beginning at 3 p.m.

The Adkins family would like to extend a special thank you to the VA doctors and nurses on the C-200 Ward, along with Brittney Hensley, and Ben Tipton.

In lieu of flowers, the Adkins family has requested that donations be made in Rogers' memory to Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church 101 Berkshire Dr. Erwin, TN 37650.
