Rodney Gayle Lowery, 74, of Jonesborough, passed away on Thursday morning, February 15, 2024, at his home after a period of declining health.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a graduate of Lamar High School. He worked for the Washington County Farmers Co-op as a truck driver where he made many friends. Rodney retired from the Town of Jonesborough in 2011 after over twenty years of dedicated service. He was best described as being a big teddy bear, a gentle giant who always tried to make people laugh and had a special love in his heart for his family and friends. Rodney enjoyed NASCAR racing, taking long rides on the back roads with his wife, and fishing before his health no longer permitted.
Rodney was preceded in death by his mother, Lucille Guinn Burkes; step-father; Joseph Burkes; father, Ralph Lowery; brother, Gary "G.L." Lowery; and brother-in-law, Felix Early.
He is survived by his wife of forty-six years, Edna Adams Lowery; daughter, Michelle Shelton- Stewart and husband, Rick; grandson, Robert C. "Robbie" Eastep and wife, Courtney; his great-granddaughter, Ansley Marie Eastep; brother and sister-in-laws, Tommy Adams (Joy), Marie Early, Fred Adams, Sammy Adams, Joyce Hunter (Eddie), Rick Adams; Randy Adams (Sherry), and Shirley Lowery; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rodney's family will receive on Sunday, February 18, 2024, at Jonesborough Funeral Home from 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. His family will honor his life with a Graveside Service following the Visitation at Oakland Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery beginning at 3:30 p.m. with Pastor John H. Moore officiating.
