Lusetta passed away on December 4, 2023, peacefully at home in her sleep.
The oldest daughter of Jimmie S. and Magaret Lamira Slagle was a lifelong resident of Gray, TN only leaving long enough to attend college.
Lusetta graduated from Daniel Boone High School and continued her education at Roanoke Bible College now known as Mid Atlantic Christian University. This is where she met Patricia Griffin, head college librarian who encouraged her to follow a career in what she loved most reading. From an early age was a voracious reading and always had a book she was reading and could be found reading anywhere even at a NASCAR race during a caution. While she enjoyed all types of books mysteries where what she like the most. She attended Peabody Vanderbilt University and received a Master in Library Science. Lusetta brought her career back home to Gray, TN working at the Gray Branch Library as the branch manager and cataloger and assistant director for Washington County Public Library, TN. She used her love for books to build the collection to meet the growing changes of the patrons and the times of technology. One of her last large projects at the library was upgrading software which she spends endless hours working out details.
Durning her career Lusetta also worked at Mid Atlantic Christian University, Scott County Library, Sullivian County Library, VA. Served on the board of trustees for Mid Atlantic Univ. for 10 years.
As a child she attended Hales Chapel Christian Church and was a member of bible bowl team and TCTC.
After college and until her passing she attended Highland Church of Christ helping the youth attend TCTC and worked to build a church library for a time. She also worked with others to help build other church libraries
Other than her love for reading she enjoyed quilting and could never pass up a cut of fabric with cats or books . Lusetta was one of the founding members of Appalachian Heritage Quilters Guild and a member of Sycamore Stitches quilt guild.
As a member of the local Quilts of Valor group #10671. She was able to fulfill a dream of making a quilt for her father in honoring him for his years of military service, and her Uncle Noah Frances. In September 2022 she attended a QOV retreat where the focus was making quilts to be awarded to veterans.
Lusetta is preceded in death by her mother, Margaret Lamira, along with several aunts and uncles.
Lusetta is survived by her father Jimmie S., a sister Anita, aunt and uncles, cousins and other loved ones too numerous to mention. A very special cousin Beverly who was her nanny and was known as her practice child for her own family years later.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at 2 PM at Washington County Memory Gardens in Boones Creek, TN in the Mausoleum Chapel
