John Jennings of the Sulphur Springs Community passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the age of 85. He was son to the late Tate and Mary (Ruble) Jennings. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Jennings. He was an active member of Sulphur Springs Methodist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 59 years, Katherine Jennings; daughters, Michelle Nolan (Kerry), Tina Jennings-Fields (Bruce); grandchildren, Madison and Mason Nolan; granddogs, Makena, Koda, and Remi; and sister, Sadie Campbell; along with many nieces and nephews.
John retired from the Kingsport Press after 40 years of service. He also served as a forward observer in the U.S. Army Reserves, and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant after 7 years of service. He was a founding member of the Sulphur Springs Volunteer Fire Department. John was a daredevil at heart that always lived life on the edge and to the fullest. He was an avid sports fan that loved competition. He could usually be found on the lake or the golf course, but his favorite place to be was with his family. He never failed to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and was loved by all who met him.
The Jennings family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Sulphur Springs Methodist Church from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor Scott Brady officiating. Committal service and Interment will be Thursday, July 18, 2024 in Sulphur Springs Cemetery beginning at 11 a.m. Brian Ford, David Ford, Jason Light, Rodney Good, Dana Good, Carlos Campbell, and Gary Campbell will serve as pallbearers.
