Janice Deakins

Mrs. Janice Carolyn Buckingham Deakins, age 83, of Jonesborough, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at her home with her family by her side.

Mrs. Deakins was born in Johnson City, TN to the late Lee Allen and Dorothy Christine Bowser Buckingham. She was also preceded in death by a brother, James Allen Buckingham, and daughter-in-law Jane Deakins.

She was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church for over sixty years. When Janice was young, she worked as a Car-Hop in Gray, She retired from the Washington County Board of Education as a Bus Driver. She was raised by her grandmother, Berlie Bowser who would teach her by quoting scripture and reading the bible to her daily. At age 10 she was already praying for a husband who would want to go to church.

Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Kermit Deakins, one daughter Cindy Sutphin (Darrel) three sons, Dale Deakins, (Linda), Dan Deakins, and Doug Deakins; grandchildren, Carrie Sutphin, Cristie Ryans, (Nick), and Pearl Estep; eight great grandsons and two great granddaughters.

Funeral services for Mrs Deakins will be Monday April 27, 2026 7:00 PM at Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church with Pastor John Herdman and Brother Graham Foran officating. The family will receive family and friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM prior to the service,
Graveside services will be Tuesday April 28, 2026 11:00 AM in Sulphur Springs Cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
