Mr. Gregory Garland, age 61, opened his eyes in heaven on Thursday, December
18, 2025, after a lengthy illness. He was the son of the late James Garland & Dilly Blankenship.
They had five boys, Greg being the second youngest. He was often found playing tricks or
telling stories just to make his loved ones smile, a trait he and his brothers all had in
common with their mom. Later in life, you would often find him and his brother Byron
telling stories about their late brothers and their tricks, jokes, and lifetime adventures
together. He enjoyed boxing, singing, and working with his hands.
Greg was a loving & devoted Husband, Dad, Papaw, Brother, Uncle, Father-in-Law,
friend and Christian. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Georgia Garland, with whom he
loved “forever and a day”, four children: Julia & spouse Jay, Adam & wife Rachel, Bethany
& fiancé Dennis, Alex & wife Ashley, and 18 grandchildren, Brother & Best friend Byron
Garland & wife Peggy Garland, sister-in-law Dremma Garland, many special nieces &
their spouses, & many other friends & family.
Greg loved God and spent many years preaching, teaching, & singing in church.
He attended Cherokee Mountain Church for 15 years with his family where he shared
his love for singing and led their choir. He made many lifelong friends there.
Greg was loved by many and will be greatly missed by his family and friends but
we know it’s not forever.
“ We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be
present with the Lord.” - 2 Corinthians 5:8 KJV
The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Lifecare Center of
Elizabethton who cared for him over the last year along with Caris Hospice Care of
Johnson City who took special care of him over the last few weeks. Also a special
thanks to dear friends Jeff & Terrie Scalf for all their love and support for Greg and his
entire family this year.
A celebration of life will be held at Cherokee Mountain Church 207 Cherokee
Mountain Rd., Jonesborough, TN 37659 on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at 4:00 pm
with Pastor & friend Kenny Whaley officiating.
