Eugene David Russell, born January 7, 1939 passed peacefully from this life on November 21, 2025 at 86 years old. Eugene is leaving behind a legacy of quiet strength, devotion, and unwavering love. Born to the late Dorothy and Burnie Russell, Eugene grew into a man defined by his integrity, gentle spirit, and steadfast commitment to family. His life was marked by hard work, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he loved.
He is preceded in death by his beloved son, David, and his brothers Jackie, Leroy, and Jerry—each now reunited with him in eternal rest.
Eugene is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 64 years, Ruby Russell, who was truly the love of his life and his partner in all things. Their union was a testament to enduring love and commitment, a bond that carried them through a lifetime of joys and challenges.
He leaves behind his son Steve (Julie) and a foster son Jeff Cheek (Amanda) who carries forward Eugene’s values and quiet strength. Eugene’s pride and joy were also found in his grandchildren: Tabitha Lacefield (Zach), Cody Russell (Ashley), and Gavin Russell (Rebecca). Each of them held a special place in his heart, as did his great-grandchildren Cameron Whitaker, Tyler Ferguson, and Iris Russell, who brought him light and laughter. His legacy extends to yet another generation with his great-great-grandson, Vincent Whitaker, a blessing Eugene cherished deeply.
Eugene is also survived by his loving siblings, who mourn his passing and celebrate his life: Norma Lawson, Patricia Bradley (John), Ronny Jo Russell, and Johnny Russell (Dave Lee). Their memories of Eugene are woven with the warmth of shared childhood, family gatherings, and the unbreakable bond of brothers and sisters.
Eugene’s life was one of deep family ties, soft-spoken wisdom, and simple acts of kindness that touched everyone around him. He will be remembered for his warm smile, his gentle humor, and the quiet but powerful love he poured into the many lives connected to his own.
Though he is no longer with us, the echoes of his love and the lessons he taught will continue to guide his family for generations.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
The Russell family will gather to greet friends and share memories on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Jonesborough Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow the Visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Jermey Dykes officiating. Committal Service and Interment will follow the Funeral in Washington County Memory Gardens Mausoleum Chapel. Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
