David Freeman

July 11, 1957 — February 25, 2024

David Wayne Freeman, 66, of Jonesborough, passed on Sunday morning, February 25, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness. He was born into a family of twelve children to the late Jake and Tilda Freeman. David loved his siblings and was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever one was needed by them.

David loved to sing, in his early years he sang in many churches, one of his most requested songs was The Apple Tree Song. He was a believer in Jesus Christ and a member of the Baptist Faith. David loved our Veterans and his country. He was involved in raising money for children and the elderly at Christmas.

David was a 1975 graduate of Davy Crockett High School. He was a member of the Johnson City Rescue Squad from 1978 - 1998. David retired from Hexpol (Burton Rubber) where he was an electrician with over forty-one years of dedicated service. He had many good friends at his work, one was like a brother to David, Larry Lowe and his girlfriend Angie Gillis. Their families ate, vacated, and attended many races together at Bristol. Other special friends include Johnny and Jane Hensley, they all liked to ride their Harleys together.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Bowman; four brothers, Buford, Vestal, John, and Lynn Freeman; three brother-in-laws, Jess Bowman, James Ayers, and Buck Coggins; and one sister-in-law, Virginia Freeman.

Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Willis Harris Freeman and Grant Matthew Freeman; two grandchildren, Addison Harper and Nathan Freeman; two sisters, Velma Ayers and Margaret Coggins; four brothers, Carl Freeman (Tonya), Leroy Freeman, Marvin Freeman, and twin brother, Bobby Ray Freeman (Donna); one sister-in-law, Barbara Freeman; girlfriend, Rachel Douglas, who loved and helped care for David; his "bestest buddy", Larry Lowe; along with several nieces and nephews.

The Freeman family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at New Hope Brethren Church 352 New Hope Rd. Jonesborough, TN 37659 from 5 p.m. - 7p.m. A Funeral Service will follow at 7 p.m. with Pastor John H. Moore officiating. Graveside Service will be on Wednesday, February 28, 2024, at Cherry Grove Cemetery beginning at 11 a.m. Willis Freeman, Grant Freemen, McKinly "Porky" Silvers, Brian Coggins, Johnny Hensley, Larry Lowe, Wayne Smith, and Dale West will serve as pallbearers. Those wishing to attend the Graveside Service are asked to meet at Jonesborough Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. to proceed to the cemetery.
