I have fought a good fight. I have finished the race and kept the faith. II Timothy
4:7

Charles "Charlie" Edward Good, born August 16, 1949, was called home to be with his
Lord and Savior on June 23, 2026, leaving an enduring legacy of hard work, exemplary
public service, dedication to family, and love.
The youngest son of Karl Harold Good and Josephine Russell Walker Good, Charlie
grew up locally and attended Jonesboro High School. After graduation, he volunteered
for service at 17 years old, actually convincing his parents to sign the papers in order for
him to enter the military.
Charlie joined the United States Army and served as a Specialist 5th class in Germany.
His drive to serve others continued throughout his life.
Returning home from overseas, Charlie enrolled at East Tennessee State University,
where he earned a Bachelor of Science and then a Master of Psychology. After gaining
his education, Charlie was employed as a therapist and as a teacher at the Johnson
City Education Youth Center, where he worked with children primarily with intellectual
and emotional disabilities.
The majority of Charlie’s career was spent at what is now Frontier Health, where he
played an integral role in the development of mental health, substance abuse, and
intellectual and developmental disabilities services in Northeast Tennessee and
Southwest Virginia. He was an essential part of the team that helped significantly grow
the agency, accepting and excelling at many leadership roles throughout his Frontier
Health career, including serving as Director of Mental Health Services and then Human
Resources, Chief Operating Officer, and finally CEO.
Throughout his career, Charlie was asked to serve on countless committees, many
state and local boards, including Southwest Virginia’s ONE Care, the Southwest Virginia
Health Authority, and served as President of the Tennessee Association of Mental
Health Organizations Board of Directors (TAMHO). He was affiliated with the
Tennessee Psychological Association, the Midwestern Association of Behavioral
Analysis, and the American Association for Marriage & Family Therapy.
Charlie’s career, which he was passionate about, culminated when he was promoted to
Chief Executive Officer at Frontier Health, a role he held until his retirement in 2014. He
received the TAMHO Distinguished Service Award the same year.
His unwavering commitment to serving others while providing exceptional leadership
extended beyond his professional life. For many years, beginning when his children
were Cub Scouts, Charlie volunteered with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as a
leader for Troop 51. He coordinated several national trips, including to Philmont Boy
Scout Ranch in New Mexico, participated in fundraising, served on the Sequoyah
Council board of directors, and was President in 2014 and 2015. He remained active in
BSA leadership meetings as long as he was able.
Throughout his life, many people were touched by Charlie’s wittiness, his kindness, and
his willingness to share knowledge, insight, and resources whenever and wherever he
could. Charlie made the world – certainly East TN and Southwest VA – a better place.
Always a wonderful patriarch for his family, Charlie also served others throughout his
work for more than 40 years.
When Charlie and Sharon moved back to Jonesborough, they became active members
of First Baptist Church Jonesborough, where he served as a deacon, chair of the
deacon board, and church treasurer.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Wilma Winslow. He leaves
behind his wife of 25 years, Sharon Bilbrey Good of Jonesborough; his brother Steven
Good and his sister-in-law Rebekah of South Carolina.
Charlie was a loving and devoted father to sons John Good (Sarah) and Karl Good
(Melissa); and a proud grandfather to granddaughters Kellan, Lleyton, and Rowan; and
to grandsons Logan and Jacob. He was a wonderful stepfather to Leslie Tucker and
Laura Blake, father-in-law to Doug, and grandfather to step-grandchildren Erin Ogle
(Trey) and Davis Blake (Madalin). He recently became a great-grandfather to Lucy Ogle
and Henry Blake. He was Uncle Charlie to several nieces and nephews.
Charlie will also be deeply missed by his brother-in-law and dear friend, Darrell Bilbrey
(Jonesborough); sisters-in-law Deborah McGee and Karen Durham (J.C.), of Cleveland;
many friends and former colleagues, and others who loved him dearly, including his
cherished boxer, Max.
Charlie's family would like to extend our sincere gratitude to State of Franklin Healthcare
Associates, Dr. Brian Way and Dr. Amanda Vanlandingham, Randy of Amedisys, and
Amy and Tyler of Cornerstone for their excellent, 24-hour service, compassionate care,
and continued prayers. Special appreciation goes to the James H. Quillen Veterans
Administration for their ongoing support in providing in-home care.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, at First
Baptist Church of Jonesborough. The funeral service will follow with Dr. Reverend
Lester Morelock officiating.
Graveside service will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 29, at McCarty Cemetery,
117 McCarty Church Road, Telford. Family and friends are asked to meet at
Jonesborough Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m. for the procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be John Good, Karl and Logan Good, Douglas and Davis Blake, and
John Demuth.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Research Hospital, Scouting
America - Sequoyah Council of Johnson City, or First Baptist Church of Jonesborough.
His Lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23
